Abortion Legality in the United States

Since the Dobbs Decision, abortion laws in the United States are frequently changing.

Different states have different requirements to obtain an abortion. These vary based on when your last period was and if more than 1 appointment is required.

The most reliable and up-to-date resources are the interactive maps at the Guttmacher Institute or Center for Reproductive Rights

It's legal to travel out of state to receive an abortion. Medication abortion providers like AidAccess and The Map can prescribe and ship abortion pills to all 50 states.

If you're looking for an abortion provider or someone to prescribe medication for an abortion, check out AbortionFinder.org or IneedanA.com.

Abortion Legality Overseas (OCONUS)

Servicemembers stationed overseas have historically faced more barriers to accessing abortion care.

This list does not include every country where there are U.S. military bases. If you do not see the country in which you are stationed, visit the Guttmacher Institute or Center for Reproductive Rights (scroll all the way down) to learn more.

This information is not meant to guide medical decisions to seek abortion care in host nations. Abortion providers may not have English interpreters available and may refuse care. Check all local laws and consult with your healthcare providers and JAG if necessary to determine if care is available.

For the most recent updates to international laws, please go to the Guttmacher Institute or Center for Reproductive Rights (scroll all the way down).
